Sidick's big night earns him OAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors
Oct. 4, 2004
TWINSBURG, Ohio - The Ohio Athletic Conference announced today (Oct. 4) that Marietta College senior Chris Sidick (Cecil, PA/Canon McMillan) was named the OAC special teams Player-of-the-Week.
Sidick caused headaches for Otterbein Saturday night (Oct. 2) and played a key role in the Pioneers' 24-23 come from behind victory.
With Marietta (3-1, 2-1 OAC) trailing 17-3 with five minutes to play in the third quarter, Sidick, the Pioneers' all-time kick return leader, brought his team right back into the game, 17-10, with an 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
The touchdown return, his second in as many seasons, was the Pioneers' longest kick return for a score since Steven Wagner had an 94-yard return in 2002. The longest recorded kick return came back in 1977, when Charles Black ran back a kick 102 yards for a touchdown.
Sidick, who had not played on offense, but as MC’s middle linebacker prior to this game, made his presence felt all over the field. He was the leading receiver with 9 grabs for 119 yards, while also rushing three times for a total of 19 yards and making two stops on defense.
The Pioneers will return to action Saturday (Oct. 9) against Capital. Saturday is Homecoming for Marietta and kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.
