Offensive
Coordinator Curt Wiese gives some instruction at the first day of
practice Thursday

With 30 returning
letterwinners, including 13 seniors, the 2004 squad is very experienced
and has shown great improvement in strength and speed in the off season.
The coaches are eager to see the team’s hard work payoff this fall.
Thursday (Aug. 12) was the first step as 130 players, including 78
freshmen, had their first practice. The session took place on the brand
new artificial surface - FieldTurf - at Don Drumm Stadium.
The cool and wet conditions
did not dampen the enthusiasm shown by both the players and the coaching
staff. "It is always hectic the first day of practice getting people
lined up right," said Todd Glaser, who will begin his
second season as the leader of the staff. "Everyone is excited to get
started and the field looks great."
Marietta will open the
season in three weeks (Sept. 4) when they host Dubuque (IA) in a 1:30
p.m. kickoff at Don Drumm Stadium. The season opener will be community
day, with the first 1,000 fans receiving a free t-shirt to commemorate
the first collegiate football game on the new field.
