Marietta men take 30th at All-Ohio Invitational
Pioneers take 14th in Division III

Oct. 5, 2007
DELAWARE, Ohio — The cross country team represented Marietta College at the All-Ohio Championships Friday (Oct. 5) afternoon. The event, which featured 39 NCAA D-I, D-II, D-III and NAIA squads, was hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at the Methodist Theological School.

With the women taking the weekend off to rest some injuries, the men carried to school’s flag to a 30th place finish overall (872 points), placing 14th among the 20 Division III teams. Both results matched that of 2005, which was the team’s best since being reinstated in 2002.

Malone won the overall title by placing three in the top four and finishing with 32 points. Ohio Northern, who placed fourth overall with 203 points, was the highest finishing D-III school.

Senior Harrison Potter (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) paced the Pioneer runners with a 142nd place finish (63rd in D-III). Potter crossed the line in 29:21.3. Senior John Hull (Scot Depot, W.Va./Winfield) was next, taking 156th place (71st in D-III) after completing the 8k race in 29:35.4. Freshman Max Kenngott (Akron/St. Vincent-St. Mary) took 165th (76th in D-III) with a time of 29:56.2. Sophomore Cody Thomas (North Olmsted) was the fourth Marietta runner to finish. He took 192nd (93rd in D-III) after crossing the line in 30:57.4. Sophomore Kevin Hazlett (Akron/St. Vincent-St. Mary) rounded out the scoring, taking 217th place (108th in D-III) with a time of 33:00.5. Also competing were sophomores Mario D’Amico (Shadyside), who took 223rd (111th in D-III) with a time of 33:22.7 and Corey Blattler (Barnsville), who finished 224th (112th in D-III) with a time of 33:34.2.

Both Marietta’s men and women will be back in action Saturday (Oct. 13) morning when they compete at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational in Pittsburgh, Pa.
